In 1771, the Dukes of Nassau granted the first gambling concession. The roulette balls have been rolling in Wiesbaden since 1782. Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky aptly described the pounding heart of people at the gaming tables in his novel “The Gambler”. The writer’s descriptions were based on personal experience, after all, he lost his fortune while staying at a spa in Wiesbaden in 1865. The roulette wheel, at which Dostoyevsky feverishly waited to hear “faites vos jeux”, is still in operation today. The casino has experienced numerous changes during the course of its history. In addition to roulette and American roulette, roulight, black jack and poker are played. The “Kleine Spiel” (small casino), which was redesigned in 1995, is located in the Kurhaus Colonnades. Here visitors may choose among 170 slot machines.

Open daily except Good Friday, 1 May, Corpus Christi, Veteran’s Day (mid-November), Memorial Day (last Sunday in November), 24 and 25 December, from 2:45 p.m. to 3 a.m. (Großes Spiel) or noon to 4 a.m. respectively (Kleines Spiel)
